Modern Dance emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a rebellion against classical ballet. Pioneers like Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and José Limón a.o. sought to create a dance form that was expressive, grounded, and free from the rigid structure of ballet.
