Maria Luigia Gioffrè is an artist and PhD practice-based researcher (2024-27) in the field of performing arts and theatre direction at Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica Silvio d'Amico, Rome, Italy.

Between 2025 and 2026 she is a visiting PhD at Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, affiliated at Creatie LAB.

Her research focuses on mediated live theatricality emerging within social media culture, and how this does inform movement, scores and aesthetics performed on stage by living bodies.

Working in between theatre, dance, performance art, visual art, curatorial practices and writing, her practice centers on the body in motion, exploring physical expressions and gesturing drawn from popular culture, and examining ways how movement vocabularies from daily life and commercial arenas intersect with those from artistic languages.

She holds an MA in Practices and Philosophies of Contemporary Photography at Central Saint Martins, UAL, London, where she graduated in 2017.

She is founder and performance curator for the artist residency platform In-ruins, devoted to expand the notion of archaeology beyond historiography.
