Karel Tuytschaever is an actor, filmmaker, and teaching artist currently finishing his PhD in the arts at the University of Antwerp (ARIA) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. His research explores embodied presence, ethics of making and presentation, and lens-based practices, framed through the concept of the “Transparent Body.”

Working across performance, film, photography, and artistic research, his practice investigates how bodies are staged, perceived, and made vulnerable within image-making processes. He teaches drama within the dance programme and physical awareness within drama at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. He works as a teaching artist at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where he develops cross-disciplinary research labs for dance, performance, and visual arts.

His work unfolds through collaborative, body-centred methodologies that engage both artistic and pedagogical contexts and culminate in long-term artistic outputs such as films, publications, and performative research formats.
